This is the thing that band I am presently at as I am an Assistant HR Manager in my association, I am exhorting and dealing with a group, I handle HR issues and give adaptable alternatives and recom mendations.Band three is Consultant, co-employable accomplice, this is the band I was moving in the direction of do at present do portions of this band like location the HR challenges, I offer answers for these difficulties and I take a load off an administration meetings.Band four is Leadership partner, customer compatriot and mentor, this bank is more on the off chance that you are an accomplice or HR Manager/director.There are ten expert zones in the HRPM at the inside or the ââ¬Ëcoreââ¬â¢ of the HRPM; you have the center proficient regions which are comprised of ââ¬ËInsights, procedure and Solutionsââ¬â¢ in the very center then around this you have ââ¬ËLeading HRââ¬â¢.Insights, system and Solutions some portion of the center is about the comprehension of the association and utilizing the your bits of knowledge into the association so you can best work out what methodology or arrangements are expected to address the issues of the association in the current day a nd going forward. When I did my own HRPM a portion of the suggestions for me to have the option to travel through my groups were:Make sure you normally share ââ¬Ëmy bits of knowledge and ideasââ¬â¢ with your administrator and key customers/group members.Ask for input on your commitment to business technique forums.Communicate, convey, impart! Set the pace for your group and ensure you are proactive with your interchanges in regards to the change.Leading HR is tied in with being a good example pioneer, boosting the commitment that HR gives to the association through your own or your groups efforts. The other eight expert zones are:Organisation design.Organisation development.Resourcing and ability planning.Learning and development.Performance and reward.Employee engagement.Employee relations.Service conveyance and information.Out of these eight expert zones in my present place of employment the last six territories in the above rundown are applicable to me in my present place of employment. I exhorted him to hold a complaint meeting with the representative who had placed the grievance in and the right procedure of doing such a gathering, which he did. After this gathering we took a gander at the minutes together andâ decided this appeared to be a conflict of characters so we conclude d that as opposed to taking this to disciplinary we would hold a couple of intercession meetings. Psychologists describe motivation Essay
Acquiescence normally means something which portrays pooches and children enamored with satisfying those they are specifically partial to. It is likened to being accommodating or tamed and equal to restrained and controlled. It is where hirelings and laborers are concerned and an enemy of theory to any individual who studies and inhales of psychological warfare and unleashing little scope destruction. By and by, it is anticipated from me as a worker, and as a resident of this nation. Be that as it may, in actuality, it can likewise be compromising if the individual has submission as a commanding quality in his life; he could be prey to one who is neutralizing the law if and when he expects to be the informant of sorts. The paper endeavors to share comprehension of acquiescence in setting of two significant social milieus: India and America. There are significant contemplations to set up this comprehension. It is in setting out the contentions, for example, giving complexities to the ideas, extrapolating from an assortment of outlines, and taking on the ethical issue as a rousing variable to show this quality. In clarifying the conduct of individuals, we start our depiction regarding a functioning main impetus: the individual looks for, the individual needs, the individual feelings of dread. Different clinicians portray inspiration, as such, as the main thrust behind our conduct (Atkinson, et al. 1983). Smith, et al. marks their conversation on inspiration as the ââ¬Å"Whyâ⬠of conduct (1982). For what reason does the late understudy in arithmetic spend the remainder of the period outside rather than inside the science homeroom? Feelings or solid emotions for the most part go with propelled conduct. Regularly, feelings direct conduct toward objectives (Atkinson, et al. 1983). In explicit and recognizable cases, the should be acknowledged is acceptably present particularly in collectivistic social orders. The paper at that point endeavors to inspect this part of inspiration in a personââ¬â¢s life rather than the thought that individuals move or are convinced to accomplish something if there is that power figure to administer or keep an eye on the undertakings doled out. It analyzes hypothetical points of view to help expand the subtleties of these two general angles. II. Conversation India is supposed to be a country which is portrayed by amazing acquiescence. Studies have demonstrated over and again the scene of neediness and the essential factor is the estimation of compliance. America is known for freedom, popular government and the right to speak freely of discourse, also strictness of the best and most exceedingly awful sorts. In any case, occasions that uncover the profound rootedness of submission inside subcultures portrayed as American assistance paint a superior and greater picture on this perception. There are similitudes and there are differentiations that make each culture hang out regarding how compliance goes to the fore in dynamic. Likewise, the uniqueness come normally with the flavor that is recognized obviously in every one of the social foundations every nation speaks to. a. Studies on Obedience I. Aberrance interestingly: Illustrations and examinations The universe of people is in many cases flighty, changing and wondrously energizing. Be that as it may, when these traits become very strange and agonizingly adverse, people become debilitated and stressed over to what degree can different people stand to incur hurt against them. Self destruction besieging is, if not the most, one of the most grisly acts anyone can submit. It is inside and out insane and moronic. One must be adjacent to the typical to be engaging such an idea at the top of the priority list. Unexpectedly, enthusiasts who have submitted and endeavored self destruction bombings before, were esteemed typical until the day when the execution of their definitive plans were made open whether thwarted or finished. Individuals who are burdened with mental confusion may, as others, travel for similar reasons â⬠excursion, visiting companions or family members, business, amusement, and now and then for strict or otherworldly center (Miller and Zarcone, 1968). Others in fact may go for reasons other than the ordinary â⬠for reasons activated by contorted mental state, for example, the men who completed the 911 assault of the Twin Towers in New York. Along the 911 assault, self destruction bombarding through airplane came to noticeable quality bringing about the blending of the mindfulness among the worldwide open of the way that the customary explorer probably won't be that ââ¬Å"regularâ⬠at any rate. It is likely that some of them are driven by over the top annoyance or roused by utopic trust as instructed in the networks wherein they have vowed their life devotion (Silke, 2003). In an ongoing unforeseen development in Pakistan, upon the arrival of previous Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto to her nation of origin, 124 were slaughtered and 320 or more got harmed because of another self destruction shelling. The aircraft tossed explosives among hordes of individuals and a short time later shot himself to death (CNN update, Oct. 18, 2007). Itââ¬â¢s hard to consider reasonable reasons why a normal individual (if that individual was ever viewed as rational by his associates) has submitted such a demonstration in any case. To spend and consume oneââ¬â¢s self for an honorable aim is praiseworthy just in the event that they advantage individuals outside oneââ¬â¢s own locale. Itââ¬â¢s never a perfect to propel a religionââ¬â¢s cause to the detriment of the lives of others. A self destruction plane is deranged in that even in the rationale of religion, all religions assumed a considerate god who is both ground-breaking and adoring. There must be mutilations some place inside the self destruction bomberââ¬â¢s psyche to have related the demonstration of conveying a bomb and demonstrations of devotion. ii. American Context: Milgram Study The world came to think about the sort of research that Stanley Milgram had recently begun to investigate in 1963 when he began to make his trials known to the general population. One of the significant results of his investigations was the turn of events and foundation of morals in explore particularly those including human subjects. Notwithstanding, that turned out to be increasingly similar to a fortunate result of an altogether extraordinary interest in considering conduct. What Milgram set out to contemplate was the issue of dutifulness all things considered of the holocaust and the likely reasons that numerous individuals then under the Nazi system followed orders that were brutal or boorish. It was roughly around the examination of Adolf Eichmann who kept an eye on the Gestapo oppressions during the said Holocaust; this individual needed to deal with indictments of annihilation which was held in Jerusalem (Milgram, 1963). The examination included what Milgram called the student, the instructor and the experimenter who approved the course and length of the investigation. The student is the individual who really was utilized to support the test (assumingly with the assent and direction of Milgram). The ââ¬Å"naiveâ⬠or blameless individual (the student) will work with a similar gathering of individuals yet one who was really a decent on-screen character. The instructors will lead the errands relegated to him about the memory practice he was to oversee which was the student will have the option to achieve; later an assessment happens of what that individual (the student) may have held. In the event that the student submits botches, changed or graduated stuns were to be applied with coordinating excruciating and anguishing sounds that can be heard (Morris and Maisto, 1999). The test indicated that regardless of endeavors by the student to convey to the instructor/volunteer that the difficult stuns ought to be halted, at whatever point the experimenter (e. g. Milgram) was gotten some information about halting the treatment and the last asserting this was a piece of the test, a mind-boggling roughly 65% kept managing the stuns. What was in any event, surprising was that when the individual playacting as though in sheer distress and even practically kicking the bucket or short of breath, the instructor kept on directing these stuns which were expanding in force (Morris and Maisto, 1999). What were the ramifications of the investigation? A significant exercise could be picking up knowledge as to peopleââ¬â¢s reasons why they may subject others who were guiltless to these difficult scenes. Like the SS men of Eichmann during the imprisonment of the Jews in the mid 40s, men who were profoundly strict to an enormous degree, comply with the requests in spite of what have been clear conflicts of comprehension (Morris and Maisto, 1999). Authority figures can't be denied as individuals who should be tuned in. Elements for a short view on the suggestions point to peopleââ¬â¢s past childhood or how they were instilled on via parental figures and figures who went about as individuals in power and the estimation of acquiescence. iii. Indian (East) Context A case of collectivist culture, India, similar to Japan and other comparative societies and nations, submission is a given in this country (Rajagopalan, 1992). . Cooperation esteems the commitments of each individual from the family and that help of whatever sort is normal from all family constituents. Acquiescence is then comprehended in the light of social impacts. Culture impacts our observation both legitimately and in a roundabout way. By implication, since culture impacts our own needs and thought processes. Legitimately, on the grounds that a personââ¬â¢s propensities for taking a gander at and deciphering things, articles, people, and circumstances rely incompletely upon his way of life (Rajagopalan, 1992). A personââ¬â¢s social encounters apply a solid impact on how he sees or deciphers a circumstance, exceptionally a social circumstance. In his contact with his family, companion, school or business relates his reactions to circumstances are impacted by encounters with these social gatherings. At the end of the day, his view of circumstance relies on his social connections with individuals and (Rajagopalan, 1992). In view of this a personââ¬â¢s social relations, family structure, and his working connections are extraordinarily affected relying upon whether he originates from a maverick or collectivist foundation or milieu. A personââ¬â¢s individual character will be immeasurably unique in the event that he was brought by a culture which is gather

The Characters Of Racism In Toni Morrison By William Morrison
Morrison takes experiences and characteristics, such as violence, love, family, hatred, race, beauty and ugliness and illustrates them in a way that is clear, but painful. These experiences are not toned down to seem less serious; they are heart breaking parts of life that are illustrated truthfully. To expose the harsh life lived by many, Morrison creates strong relatable characters. These characters create a need for empathy towards them, but the purpose is to take this love to traumatic victims in the real world. Morrisonââ¬â¢s use of narrator change and choice of language gives the novel impactful perspective to the lives of african americans in a society where the color of your skin determines who you are. Morrison wishes to showâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Throughout the novel, we as the reader feel empathy towards someone who is so young and hates herself because of the color of her skin. Morrison conveys to us that even if the black community isnââ¬â¢t being directly targeted by racist remarks, that they are having a sort of second-hand reaction because of internalized racism. The strongly relatable characters, give a different perspective on internalized racism that I couldnââ¬â¢t comprehend as a white reader. The use of diction within The Bluest Eye is meant to create inferential perspectives to reveal the two sides to internalized racism and the struggles that those in this situation are in by using things like connotation and irony throughout the novel. An important part to focus on the diction of the novel is when the perspective is told from Claudia with her dolls. Claudia feels nothing but hatred for these dolls because of what they stand for, but when everyone else is speaking about the dolls, they only say great things about them. Morrison uses connotative diction to set a double sided tone of envy and anger. When the dolls are described by Claudia, she uses words like ââ¬Å"bleatâ⬠and ââ¬Å"bone-coldâ⬠. Claudia doesnââ¬â¢t want to relate to the dolls, so she uses inhuman descriptions to not mimic the human baby model. However, when others speak of the doll, they use words like ââ¬Å"sweetâ⬠and ââ¬Å"dearnessâ⬠. These descriptions provide a contr asting opinion towards the dolls. Reactive Attachment Disorder And Its Effect On All Aspects...
Reactive attachment disorder is a unique disorder in its onset, impact on all aspects of life, and diversity of subtypes. In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual ââ¬â IV (DSM- IV), reactive attachment disorder was characterized by two subtypes; the disinhibited and the inhibited subtypes. The inhibited subtype was identified as being withdrawn, unemotional, and having difficulty forming any sort of significant relationship with others. The disinhibited subtypeââ¬â¢s most defining characteristic was indiscriminate friendliness, and overwhelming trust for strangers. While the two subtypes seem like completely different disorders that have no relation, the reason they were originally put together in the DSM-IV was their origins. These disorders originate from severe maltreatment in childhood, and are fairly rare because of the level of severity necessary for the disorder to develop. Their common origin hints at a problem within the attachment relationship as a potential source o f difficulties. The name itself is derived from a reaction to pathogenic care in early childhood. Attachment is a crucial part of development, as evidenced by these two disorders. This theory was the work of John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, in theory and in practice respectively. The theory is based upon the relationship developed between a child and caregiver beginning in infancy. There is also adult attachment theory, but that is less relevant to reactive attachment disorder. Enacting Research Methods in Information Systems
Question: Discuss about the Enacting Research Methods in Information Systems. Answer: Introduction: The organizational change is concerned with the incorporation of new business processes, cultural changes or changes in the organizational structure (Petrou, Demerouti Schaufeli, 2016). The modern-day organizations are constantly undergoing change. The organizational change can be related to an objective phenomenon and it is also connected with social construction. There are changes in the organizational strategy, operational methods, structure, organizational culture or technology (Carter et al., 2013). There can be continuous changes or intermittent changes that affect the organizations. The organizational change occurs when there is a transition from a current state to the desired future situation of an organization (Petrou, Demerouti Schaufeli, 2016). The management of the organizational change involves the planning as well as implementation of the change process. There can be employee resistance in the process of implementation of the change. The resistance to change should be addressed properly by identification of the root causes of the same and providing suitable solution (Petrou, Demerouti Schaufeli, 2016). For example, in an organization, where there was no management information system, the senior management decided to implement an improved Decision Making Software (DSS) for increasing the organizational productivity. The organization must realize the importance of the change process that they are experiencing. The change management process would enable the employees to imbibe new skills as well as expertise (Tummers et al., 2015). The leaders as well as managers engage in continuous efforts to manage the change process. The organizational change would allow the project managers to analyze each stage of the project and identify the growth opportunities. The change process motivates the employees and the teams are able to achieve their desired goals (Tummers et al., 2015). The change gives the managers opportunity to align the existing resources to satisfy the organizational needs. The successful change process corresponds to addressing the concerns of the employees (Petrou, Demerouti Schaufeli, 2016). The managers can successfully reduce the risk by bringing in required changes in the organizations (Tummers et al., 2015). The successful change would bring in more return on investment (ROI) for th e company. For example, the successful implementation of management information system would enable the contemporary organizations to improve their operational efficiency. This would increase their customer satisfaction levels which would increase their sales. The increase in the sales would definitely imply an increase in the ROI of the company. The change process leads to the growth and development of the employees which in turn leads to enhanced organizational productivity. It is extensively studied that almost 70% of the change process are not successful in the organizations (Baskerville Wood-Harper, 2016). They do not achieve the desired change goals or they fail miserably. There are several reasons for the failure of the change initiatives. There can be lack of detailed knowledge regarding the change process, lack of skilled process, hidden conflicts against change, opposing organizational culture and others (Baskerville Wood-Harper, 2016). The change process may fail completely in an organizational context. Kodak faced several issues with the change management process (Forbes.com, 2016). It made efforts to venture into the digital world in a fast manner, however, they failed in the process (Forbes.com, 2016). The internal employees did not take adequate steps to combat with the change process. There were several barriers in the change process which were not addressed properly (Forbes.com, 2016). The company took initiatives to implement digital transformation, however, did not take adequate measure to combat the obstacles. There were challenges of new technology, high competition and low margins, which were not considered by the management. The company failed to undertake strategic decisions (Forbes.com, 2016). There were also issues with the leadership of the firm. There were instances when the organization didnt perform sufficient market research, which was the reason behind the under-achieve of the change plan (Li, Goh Cavusoglu, 2013). There are instances when the organizations did not perform the market scan or the competitive analysis which prevented the change process to reach their full potential (Li, Goh Cavusoglu, 2013). The lack of background data has an effect on the change planning and the change process cannot be implemented successfully. For example, Nokia did not perform sufficient competitive analysis and hence failed to analyze the potential of Apple or Google (Li, Goh Cavusoglu, 2013). The company failed to perform a detailed macroenvironmental analysis and hence didnt formulate suitable policies. Nokia was unable to gauge the products of the competitors and how technology was utilized by the competitors (Li, Goh Cavusoglu, 2013). The company failed to perform correct market segments which made it unable to capture the tar get market. The company made generalized market strategy as they did not have access to data concerning the target market (Li, Goh Cavusoglu, 2013). Nokia did not analyze the customer behaviors which made them formulate in appropriate change management policies. References Baskerville, R. L., Wood-Harper, A. T. (2016). Introduction of 4ps free essay sample
Marketing The 4 Ps of marketing are Product, Price, Place, and Promotion. Think of each of these as a variable which you control. The idea is to set these variables in such a way so that sales will take place. You cannot make a customer pull out her credit card, but you can certainly help her in coming to a decision by setting the right price, the retail location, the level of advertising and even product attributes such as colour or perceived quality. You control everything but the customer herself. These variables are all interdependent. Taken together, they constitute a certain mix. This is often referred to as the marketing mix. In defining this mix it is also necessary to take into account your competitors mix as well as your overall corporate goals and objectives. The idea is to come up with a mix that will clearly differentiate your products from those of your competitors while considering your corporate goals. We will write a custom essay sample on Introduction of 4ps or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page For example, your company may wish to offer a high-end luxury type of product since your competitors are addressing the mass market and this is consistent with your companys goal of owningà the market for top-of-the-line products of this category. Definition of 4Pââ¬â¢s Product: The marketing mix concept has its roots in the 1950s U. S. corporate marketing world, and the practice of marketing has obviously evolved tremendously since this term was invented. One of the changes is that there are a lot more services available nowadays, such as those available online. Also, the distinction between product and service has become more blurry. Either way, product here refers to products or services. The product or service you offer needs to be able to meet a specific, existing market demand. Or, you need to be able to create a market niche through building a strong brand. Price: The price you set for your product or service plays a large role in its marketability. Pricing for products or services that are more commonly available in the market is more elastic, meaning that unit sales will go up or down more responsively in response to price changes. By contrast, those products that have a generally more limited availability in the market are more inelastic, meaning that price changes will not affect unit sales very much. The price elasticity of your product or service can be determined through various market testing techniques. Place: This term really refers to any way that the customer can obtain a product or receive a service. Provision of a product or service can occur via any number of distribution channels, such as in a retail store, through the mail, via downloadable files, on a cruise ship, in a hair salon, and so on The ease and options through which you can make your product or service available to your customers will have an effect on your sales volume. Promotion: Promotion is concerned with any vehicle you employ for getting people to know more about your product or service. Advertising, public relations, point-of-sale displays, and word-of-mouth promotion are all traditional ways for promoting a product. Promotion can be seen as a way of closing the information gap between would-be sellers and would-be buyers. Your choice of a promotional strategy will be dependent upon your budget, the type of product or service you are selling, and availability of said promotional vehicle.

Marketing Myopia essays
Marketing Myopia essays Marketing Myopia is the failure to define an organization's purpose in terms of its function from the consumers' point of view. For example, railway companies that define their markets in terms of trains, rather than transportation, fail to recognize the challenge of competition from cars, airlines, and buses. It is therefore necessary to define the needs of the consumer in more general terms rather than product-specific terms. Marketing Myopia is the short sighted look of the managers in wrongly identifying the category and goals of the company, not looking at the whole industry of the product neglecting the fields of opportunities in their area of industry, not listening to the customer's real needs and expectations. Do not think bricks but think building materials. Do not think glass bottles, think containers. That way if building materials or containers change, the company can still be in business. More importantly, if the company thinks one level up and is in tune with the changes in its customer's needs, it has a chance to make changes in its production. Encyclopedia Britannica's temporary denial of the effect computers and CD-ROMs would have on its core business. The company thought that their business is to writing and selling books; they did not see the technological change and did not understand the meanings that something that was once priced at over $1,000 became a giveaway with most personal computers. Ouch! They should have realized they were in the business of selling Information and not just writing books. Multinational Companies and Global Human Resource Strategies Coursework
Multinational Companies and Global Human Resource Strategies - Coursework Example The expansion into new business environments across borders presents massive human resource challenges as a business must ensure cultural and managerial opportunity but also consider the needs of the new market. Various international human resource management and staffing policies have been developed to ensure that the internationalization and expansion programs are not affected. Coke Mexico has embraced a number of international staffing policies most of which were adopted from the pioneer years of their entry into the Mexican market. At coke Mexico, a mixture of different international staffing policies has been adopted to ensure smooth operation of the company and continuity of its culture and business practices. Such staffing policies include ethnocentric, polycentric, geocentric and regiocentric staffing approach all of which are governed by different principles. This paper will evaluate some of the staffing strategies that coke Mexico has adopted over the years and also review some of the available policies that it can be adapted to ensure continuity and smooth operations. The paper will also provide recommendations on the order of strategic preferences that the company can adapt based on the Mexican situation and business environment. The world has witnessed rapid internationalization and globalization over the last decade and this has been attributed to the search for new markets and global influence. The expansion of a business entity beyond the domestic boundary while maintaining the commitment to the local market calls for the adoption of complex business structures and strategies (Cooke, 2003). The effective management of human resources is one common determinant of internationalization success and the integration of foreign cultures into the operations of theà business.

US government for the rich or for the poor Essay
US government for the rich or for the poor - Essay Example The expository by Valdas Anelauskas regarding the state of social affairs in the United States free market economy reveals several facts that profoundly try to establish that the US government is serving the interest of the rich while working against the poor.Central to X's arguments is the idea that US formulated tax laws are providing corporations opportunities to make enormous profits all the while pushing employees further into the quagmire of poverty and hopelessness.US economic policy is akin to providing business entities with benefits that are collectively called corporate welfare which I have learned upon further reading. This welfare consists of government programs that extend unique advantages or benefits to specific industries or companies. Corporate welfare includes direct grants to businesses, indirect commercial support to businesses and subsidized loans and insurance. These programs provide useful services to private industry such as research, insurance, statistics, l oans, and marketing support. In addition to spending programs, corporate welfare also includes barriers to trade that protect U.S. industries from foreign competition. The logic behind giving corporations such benefits is the hope that they will remain competitive in the local and global marketplace thereby ensuring the labor force with employment with the possibility of providing more because of the availability of more capital. Anelauskas provides many statistics on US tax disparities between the rich and the poor but the more telling one is corporate benefits amounting to $165 billion as opposed to the $50 billion given for social welfare (p. 283). Anelauskas reveals that the perceived benefits of the corporate welfare to the labor force did not materialize. It turns out that while corporations have slashed their taxes thru the different provisions of the law, they are actually using the money saved and even the subsidies received to enrich their top-ranking officials particularly the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The result is that CEOs are earning huge amounts of money that are hundreds and even thousands of times larger than what the average employee would earn. Instead of ensuring employment security and providing more employment opportunities, US corporations are actually conducting mass lay-offs on a grand scale and their CEOs even get paid with huge amounts of money for conducting such operations. Instead of the benefits of improved employment, US workers now face the possibility of employment termination more than ever, the decreasing availability of health and retirement benefits and lower compensation. Making matters worse is that while corporations are paying less and earning more, individuals are paying more to account for t he void left by the corporate tax cuts but are earning less. What is more undesirable is that individual taxpayer's money goes to corporate bank accounts. Aneulaskas argues that it is thru the actions of the US government that made this state of affairs possible. The US government even acts as a passive observer to the mass lay-offs and the scam of huge pay-offs that make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Is Aneulaskas right in claiming that the US government are actually serving the interests of the rich It is important to remember that the main basis why the US government formulated these give-aways to corporations is to help them stay financially viable in a rapidly globalizing marketplace. The US government would not want these corporations to go bankrupt or relocate their production and manufacturing facilities in countries with cheap labor and have their own labor force having little employment opportunities. Can we say therefore that the US government is not actually helping the rich but are actually more concerned with those of the average and meagre incomes I would have believed that such is the case if it were not for the obliviousness of the US govern

The impact of human activities on sharks in the northwest atlantic Essay Example for Free
The impact of human activities on sharks in the northwest atlantic Essay The earth is a finite space. Everyone and everything on it must share its vast yet limited resources, and the actions of one species effects many, if not all, others. Over time, we have come to realize that human activities are having disproportionately negative effects on the global environment. An excellent example of this within the marine biome can be seen in analyzing shark populations of the Northwest Atlantic. In their study, ââ¬Å"Collapse and Conservation of Shark Populations in the Northwest Atlanticâ⬠(2003), Julia K. Baum, et al. traced the changes in the populations of eight shark species from 1986 to 2000 (two species were only recorded from 1992 onward). They looked at the areas comprised of the ââ¬Å"Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, Florida East Coast, South Atlantic Bight, Mid Atlantic Bight, Northeast Coastal, Northeast Distant, Sargasso/North Central Atlantic, Tuna North/Tuna South. â⬠In this region, they noted an 89% decline in the hammerhead shark population over a period of 14 years. Similarly, white sharks declined 79%, tiger sharks 65%, and thresher shark populations declined by 80% between 1986 and 2000. In fact, each of the eight species saw a population decline over the course of the study. The study concludes that ââ¬Å"The magnitude of the declines estimatedâ⬠¦suggests that several sharks may also now be at risk of large-scale extirpation. â⬠The study goes on analyse the causes of such drastic decline over such a short period of time. Citing overfishing as a significant culprit it claims, ââ¬Å"In the past half century, as fishing fleets expanded rapidly in the open ocean, have large marine predators been subject to this intense exploitation. â⬠Overfishing however is not a new phenomenon, and has indeed been a factor in depleting populations of marine species historically as well. In his 2001 colloquium paper, ââ¬Å"What was natural in the coastal oceans? â⬠Jeremy B. Jackson cites 19th century overfishing in cause ââ¬Å"live coral abundance declined to 1-2% cover from values of 50% or moreâ⬠in the 1908s. He claims that while this was noted in the 1980s it is the result of historical trends by determining, ââ¬Å"Coral communities did not change noticeably until the epidemic mortality of Diadema antillarum in the 1980s because ecological redundancy of herbivores obscured the potential effects of the loss of large herbivorous fishes for well over a century. Macroalgae were not able to overgrow corals until the last major herbivore was lost from the system. â⬠The ramifications for sharks and other carnivorous species as is significant because declining herbivore populations means there is a food scarcity and thus will result in a decline in predator populations as well. The Baum study notes that their finding of ââ¬Å"large and rapid declinesâ⬠¦are in addition to substantial historical reductions. Overexploitation of elasmobranchs (sharks, skates, and rays) is known to have already nearly eliminated two skate species from much of their ranges. â⬠They then engage in a discussion of appropriate measures that could be adopted to counteract the declines their study revealed. They particularly examine marine reserves an ââ¬Å"increasingly popular tool for marine conservation and resource management worldwideâ⬠(2002). Using ââ¬Å"simple models to analyze the implications of large-scale marine reserves for shark conservation. They ran each of these models with two likely scenarios ââ¬Å"(i) after the closure, fishing effort is displaced and changes such that the same total swordfish quota is caught (constant-quota scenario); or (ii) fishing effort is displaced but remains constant overall (constant-effort scenario). â⬠Surprisingly, the study found that ââ¬Å"marine reserves can indirectly cause harm if fishing effort is merely displaced. â⬠They found that while closing one region of the study area benefited some species of that region, it had the potential to harm other species both within the closed region and in other regions of the Northwest Atlantic. Their findings suggest that ââ¬Å"if marine reserves are to be effective, their placement is of critical importance, and conservation initiatives must explicitly consider impacts on the whole community of species. â⬠They concluded that ââ¬Å"emphasis on single-species conservation, without controlling effort, simply shifts pressure from one threatened species to another and may actually jeopardize biodiversity. â⬠This scenario would be much like that of 19th century overfishing in that its results would be indirect and thus their effects might immediately be masked but could show up to be catastrophic in the long-term. A more recent study further indicated that ensuring species survival would require a 40-80% reduction in fishing mortality, and that ââ¬Å"rapid recovery of community bio-mass and diversity usually occurs when fishing mortality is reduced. â⬠This recovery was noted to be ââ¬Å"more variable for single species, often because of the influence of species interactions. â⬠Thus, the study concluded that multi-species management must be targeted toward the needs of the most sensitive rather than the most robust species in the system. Finally, in order to most effectively aid in the recovery of predator species of the Northwest Atlantic, the effort must include ââ¬Å"reductions in fishing effort, reduction in bycatch mortality and protection of key areas to initiate recovery of severely depleted communitiesâ⬠(Myers Worm, 2005). Analysis the potential outcomes of any activity is significant because all human activity, not just actions determined to have a negative effect such as fishing, affects the environment. Even activities whose goal is to benefit another species can have unforeseen ramifications, some of these could even result in further harm to the species or environment they are seeking to aid. Rather than merely rushing to the conclusion that marine regions should be designated as reserves, it is important to examine not only the effects on one species, but look to the larger biome and scrutinize the impact that one variable is likely to have on countless other factors with which it interacts directly and indirectly. Within the finite space of the earth, any one action regardless of its intent is likely to reverberate throughout the environment and especially be felt within a specific region or biome. Thus, humans must consider all of there actions when working with the marine biome so as to ensure the least possible harm to its species and the larger world in general. References Baum, J. English Speech Against Physical Punishment of Children :: Papers
English Speech Against Physical Punishment of Children Good Morning/Afternoon ladies, gentlemen and chairperson. I am also arguing against the motion that states, this house believes that physical punishment including smacking young children is wrong. I am a firm believer that a short, sharp smack can keep children under control. This doesnââ¬â¢t mean they should be beaten up or even marked, but strict and fair punishment will benefit a child in the long run. Please picture this scene: a young child of around 3 years is having a temper tantrum in the middle of a busy high street because his mum wonââ¬â¢t buy him a toy car. He tries to run away from his mother, screaming and shouting at the same time. To stop the noise the mother gives in a buys the toy car. Now ask yourself who is in charge here, the mother or the child? After all, the child gets his own way and now knows exactly what to do next time he wants something. In these circumstances, parents may have to resort to a smack to one, get the child listening and doing what they are told, two, stop the noise and temper tantrum and finally, for the childââ¬â¢s benefit and own safety. Also, what or who is going to stop an out of control child running out into the middle of a busy road? A quick smack is a lot less pain full then getting knocked down by a car or even a bus! There are many in favour of the government leaving the law as it stands that parents have the right to smack their children. Groups such as Family and Youth Concern feel politicians should let parents get on with bringing up their children as they see fit, and warn that any change in the law would risk turning thousands of parents into criminals. They also feel a ban on smacking would be impossible to enforce. The opposition may argue that there are other forms of punishment which are just as effective as smacking. For example, ignoring the

Creation Myth Compare and Contrast
Usually, creation myths have a lot of similarities and seem to convey the same message. A creation myth is a symbolic narrative of how the world began and how people first came to inhabit it. There are many different creation myths that have been passed down from generation to generation and in ââ¬Å"Enuma Elishâ⬠ââ¬Å"Osiris, Isis and Horusâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Genesisâ⬠you are able to see just how similar they are, but also slight different. One of the first things you will notice in these myths is that they are all based on gods. Each myth has an evil entity that helps set the myth to tell a story on what happened and to get the message across. Each evil entity plays a big part in the myth and eventually loses the battle to show that good always prevails.1. Osiris, Isis and Horus ââ¬â Set was the son of Geb and Nut who chose to be born on the third day. Set was aggressive from the very beginning choosing the time and manner of his birth. Osiris became king of Upper a nd Lower Egypt. Set wanted to take over the country and established a plan to trick Osiris by showing a beautiful wooden box during the feast.Set said that anyone who can fit in the box perfectly was able to keep the box ââ¬â little did everyone know that Set secretly measured the box to fit Osiris. Once Osiris had his turn to fit in the box, it was nailed shut with him inside. They then poured melted lead to make sure that he suffocated. Isis eventually was able to bring Osiris back to life and in the mean time their son, Horus, was born. Horus was born to avenge his fatherââ¬â¢s death and kill Set. Isis would not allow Horus to kill Set, so they battled each other, and Horus won each time.2. Enuma Elish ââ¬â Tiamat was encouraged by her son Kingu to seek revenge her children to avenge the death of Apsu and for creating a fourfold wind that kept them awake and disturbed their bodies. Tiamat created monsters to help her win this battle against the other gods, but they had something else in mind. They made Marduk fight the battle against Tiamat because the others were not strong enough and Marduk was the wisest and strongest of all of the gods. Marduk won the battle against Tiamat and killed her to make the heavens and the earth from her body.3. Genesis ââ¬â The evil entity in Genesis is the serpent that convinces Eve to eat the apple off of the tree of wisdom. God specifically told Adam and Eve not to eat this fruit as it was forbidden. Eve gave in and ate the fruit and then had Adam do the same. Because of the serpent, Adam and Eve ate the fruit and they were all punished and put out of the Garden of Eden. As you can see, each mythââ¬â¢s evil entity lost their battle during the story. None of them achieved what they wanted to, which shows that good always overcomes evil, even though there are conflicts raised from it.Sometimes you have to fight for what you know is right, but eventually, the good always shines. Enuma Elish and Genesis are mo st similar in a few different ways. With these myths, you are really able to tell that most creation myths are a foundation on the way different cultures are made up. Some of the similarities between Enuma Elish and Genesis are;1. Both myths imply that there was nothing in the beginning. In Genesis it states, ââ¬Å"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. â⬠The myth of Enuma Elish starts by stating ââ¬Å"In the beginning, only water and the mist that hovered above it existed. â⬠As you can see, both myths beginning started with nothing until the Gods created something.2. The Enuma Elish is recorded on seven tablets where as Genesis states that everything was created in seven days.3. In both myths, water is divided into upper and lower waters. Both of these creation myths have a similar beginning as well as a similar plot â⬠â they both created human life to worship God and the gods, to serve them. Both had an evil entity in them that tried to cause chaos to the gods. Although I do think that all three myths are very similar, I believe that Enuma Elish is most different from Osiris, Isis and Horus. The difference between the two is shown when it comes to the creation of the world around them. The difference between the two myths is;1. In Osiris, Isis and Horus doesnââ¬â¢t mention anything about the creation of the heavens, earth, etc.à in the beginning. The myth starts out with the parentââ¬â¢s of Osiris and Isis and the story of how Nut was not allowed to give birth in any month of any year.2. The beginning of the the Enuma Elish starts out with what all existed and how the waters were split between gods. Each myth has a lot of similarities as well as differences but they each tell a story on how things were created. All of the myths had gods that tried to do good for the other gods and had an evil entity try to change that. Each of the explained how good will always outweigh evil even though evil is always in the world.

Heat of Formation Definition - Chemistry Glossary
In chemistry, heat of formation is the heat released or absorbed (enthalpy change) during the formation of a pure substance from its elements at constant pressure (in their standard states). Heat of formation is usually denoted by ÃâHf. It is typically expressed in units of kilojoules per mole (kJ/mol). Heat of formation is also called enthalpy of formation. The pure substances in question may be elements or compounds. However, the heat of formation of a pure element has a value of 0. Sources Kleykamp, H. (1998). (If we look back to all the books we have read over the course of our life, we may see that a literary device commonly used by almost all writers would be foils. Foils are often put right next to one another, to emphasize the nature of each character, by putting a good character next to a presumably bad character, so that the bad character will look worse, but the good character will look exceedingly better. We have seen this writing technique in many different types of literature. For example, in mythology with the movie Troy, the foils were King Priam, and King Agamemnon. They may both be kings, but they have very different personalities. King Priam care not just for power, but he also cares for the people of his kingdom; however, King Agamemnon only cares about power.) (This idea of placing somewhat similar, yet mostly opposing characters side-by-side is also undoubtedly presented in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. Harper Lee does an incredible job of creating these opposing chara cters for Jam and Scout to encounter, so that they can learn what is right and wrong, and so that they could go from innocence to experience.) (In To Kill a Mockingbird, three foils are very highly valued in the childrenââ¬â¢s transition from their state of innocence to their state of experience; these three foils include, Miss Maudie Atkinson Miss Stephanie Crawford; Calpurnia and Lula; finally, with Atticus Finch and Mr. Gilmer.) Performance Enhancing Drugs For Sports Essay - 1514 Words
Performance-Enhancing Drugs in Sports A tremendously large problem in sports is whether or not athletes should be able to use performance enhancing drugs. To most people, it doesn t make any sense for athletes to be using them. They have to know what affect it has on their body not only physically, but also mentally. Around the early 2000ââ¬â¢s is when all this starting coming up and it has made a dramatic impact on the sports world. The few people who want performance-enhancing drugs in sports donââ¬â¢t worry about the damage they do to athletesââ¬â¢ bodies, but want more excitement in that certain sport. Even though steroid use can drastically enhance the abilities of players and make the sport more fun to watch, it shouldn t be allowed in any professional sports. They can harm the athlete using them as well as make that specific athlete look like a bad role model and also will create an unfair advantage in the sport they are playing. In the disagreements about the use o f performance enhancing drugs, there are two completely different perspectives on it. One side being against them and one side being for them. The side being for performance enhancers think itââ¬â¢s more exciting to watch a sport because of the advantages it gives the athlete. Virtualisation and Cloud Computing
Question: Discuss the requirements for remote administration, resource management and SLA management. It may be useful to consider Morad and Dalbhanjans operational checklists for DSIs OSDS. This section should be no more than two to three pages in length. Discuss briefly how you will consider application resilience, backup and disaster recovery for your chosen provider in relation to OSDS. This section should be no more than two to three pages in length. Use Erls SLA guidelines to assess the SLA for your chosen provider. This section should be no more than two to three pages in length. Provide a covering one to two page executive summary of these two assessments to DSI Executive Management and summarise the major opportunities and risks that have been identified in your assessments. Answer: Requirements of Remote Administration Remote administration is a technique through which one can accomplish a secured view of a remote computer. Due to the advancement in the technology, the technology can be benefited to anyone who composes some basic requirements. There are some specific system requirements for the remote connection to be established and they are as follows:- Any system which has an internet connection or LAN (local area network) connection can be administered remotely. Server software has to be installed by the user on his system for secure remote administration. Thus, the user can enjoy the services remotely through any device or system. The internet connection of the user should be proper and not dial up in nature, as it constantly gets disconnected. After the establishment of the connection, the desktop screen of the host is visible to the client. Other than these, certain hardware requirements such as an adequate Ram, hard disk, and operating system to support the software are mandatory as well. Requirements of Resource Management Resource management is essential in a system created or developed by human beings. It directly affects the three fundamental properties of a system which are cost, functionality and performance. The scarcity of resources has an adverse effect on the performance and cost of a service. It can also have an indirect impact on the functionality of the service and inefficiency may make the functions of the system more expensive or ineffective. In the context of cloud computing, the resources are shared and moreover, the cloud being a complex system, it is very much necessary to optimize the use of resources in the cloud environment (Manageengine.com, 2016). The nature of cloud results into the unexpected call for resources and the requests can be beyond controls depending on the factors. So, it is considered that the cloud resource management needs complex policies for maximum optimization of resources. The main components for the resource management are cloud providers and clients. VMM (virtual machine monitor) and VIM (Virtualization Improved) are the core components of resource management (Cloudpatterns.org, 2016). Service Level Agreement (SLA) A contract between the two entities: service providers and clients which describe the terms and conditions of the services provided by the provider are called service level agreement. The service provider mentions the list of services to be provided by him and the penalties provider would pay if he is not able to meet the commitments. The SLA acts as a metrics for the service provider to judge its capabilities to deliver the performance. There are some specifications in SLA which are called as service level specifications. There are generally some parameters which are directly related to service such as throughput, latency, availability of network and so on. They describe the quality of service. Real-time reporting on the factors such as QoS (quality of service), administration, agreement violations, and usage is very much essential in SLA(Cloudpatterns.org, 2016). Every application in cloud services should have high availability or resilience features and the requirements. The chosen service provider in this context is Amazon web services. Amazon web services (AWS) provides support to the clients to meet the needs of application resilience in a cost effective manner. An impactful high resilience strategy includes the use of multiple zones for availability, auto scaling, recovery up to certain extent, and continuous monitoring. The applications should ensure that the point of failures should be notified and assess the failures based on the needs of software and risk profile. In AWS, the resilience feature will not only include the recovery of a component but also the nature of resilience test which is to be performed while recovering the component. Some of the features of AWS are such as auto scaling, elastic IP address for the remapping of static IP addresses, load balancing across different availability zones and so on(Amazon, 2016). Application disaster recovery and Backup There are specific requirements for backup and disaster recovery for applications and they are specifically bound to a recovery time and a recovery point (Whatiscloud.com, 2016). It also has particular geographic requirements which can be helpful at the time of recovery as the proximity between the actual site and the recovery site can be calculated.(Tech Target, 2016) An effective strategy for disaster recovery will include more than how a component can be recovered. For an example, it can be said that a component failed in a region can be re-launched at a different region automatically using warm, hot or cold stand bys. There are tests which are needed to be performed for the disaster recovery as the recovery of an application should be confirmed.(Soeldner, 2016) At a certain level, an impactful disaster recovery and backup strategy needs to enrol and it would include global management of traffic (balancing of load), monitoring, recovery from region to region, and redundancy(Tech Target, 2016). There are certain techniques which are followed by the chosen provider AWS and they are as follows: - It can store machine images, data, or can initiate additional instances in a different AWS location. Amazon Route 53 is used when DNS of a particular region has failed. Archive data is stored in Amazon glacier.(Onlinetech.com, 2016)(Sheilapantry.com, 2016) It also provides leverages to database log shipping which is a kind of data replication technique and it is asynchronous in nature. It also keeps reserves of disaster recovery in different region with the help of reserved instance feature of Amazon EC2. Amazon machine images or EBS snapshot copy can be used. Amazon S3 can be used for more security and protection of data. EBS snapshot copy can be used for quick disaster recovery(Sherwood, 2015). SLA is originated by the network service provider, but it is now used by the cloud computing service providers and telecommunication service providers. SLA measures the quality of the service provider's performance using number of ways. Some of the specific metrics used in the SLA are: Service provided to the number of concurrent users. Application Response Time. Response time of Help Desk for different classes of problems. Availability of the service at the percentages of time. Availability of the Usage Statics. Comparison of periodic performances with the benchmarks of specific performances. To understand the various differences in the SLA and service and deployment model, the following guidelines models, such as laas, Saas or Pass. Apart from it, the models whose performances are also similar with the laas, saas or pass are Hybrid, Private (on-site) or Public models. Further, the crucial performance objectives are identified as: To get an insight into the business level performances objectives for the cloud opportunities such as reduction of cost, market the software functionality on per unit basis. Identification of the set of metrics, critical for the achievement of the business level performances objectives. It must be ensured that the continuous monitoring of the metrics of right level of granularity should be monitored in a cost-effective manner. To provide the consistency for the cloud metrics, majorly in the areas such as methods of collection, metrics definition, it is necessary to identify the standards properly. To influence the decisions of the business, metrics should be analysed and leveraged on the ongoing basis as a tool(Rouse, 2016). To evaluate the privacy requirements and security deeply, it must be ensured that the following questions should be answered: If the asset will be availed or distributed publically, how would the business will get harmed? If the assessment of the assets is made by one of our cloud providers than how would the business get harmed? If the functions or processes were manipulated by an outsider, then how the business will get harmed? If the processes will fail to recover the expected results, then how the business will get harmed? If there is an unexpected change in the information/data, then how would the business get harmed? If the availability of the assets will get missed for a period of time, then how the business will be harmed? While making selection of the SLA, the following guidelines must be followed by the users: Make a choice for the measurement which will motivate the right behaviour: The first goal of the service provider is to choose the metrics which will serve with the appropriate behaviour on behalf of the service providers and client. Each side of the business must attempt to provide satisfactory results in order to meet the objectives of the performances(Rouse, 2016). Be assuring about the metrics that it should reflect the factors within the control of service provider: SLA metrics should reflect the factors within the control of the outsourcer for motivating the right behaviour. A typical mistake which is commonly committed is to penalize the service provider for the delay's created due to lack of performances of the client's (Paul, 2008). Choose measurements that are easily collected and balance the power of desired metrics: Ideally, the SLA metrics can be easily collected but in a ground of minimal overhead, it may not be possible for all desired metrics. Less is more: The choice of an excessive number of metrics or metrics that produces voluminous data must be avoided. Setting of proper baseline: Defining the right metrics is just like winning half of the battle. In order to make it useful, the setting of metrics should be made according to the reasonable and attainable performances. The assessment discusses the aspects of cloud services such as remote administration, its role and importance, management of resources and service level agreements. It also discusses the management of service level agreement and its importance in the service contract with the client. The assessment at the beginning starts with the discussion of remote administration and the requirements needed in a system for a successful remote administration. It also discusses the advantages of remote connection and administration in cloud service(Ikediashi, 2004). Further, in the assessment, the idea of resource management is discussed in wide scale. As resource management is very critical in cloud computing (because of shared resources and uncertain demand of resources from the user), it is very much important to monitor the availability of the resources and have an optimized solution for the resource management and provide resources to the users as per their needs. Further, the areas of impact o f resource management are focused and it again certifies the importance of resources in cloud management and how it affects the performance, functioning and quality of clouds. Moreover, it also discusses the role of virtualization in resource management(Gsoedl, 2016). The assessment also provides an insight to the definition and importance of service level agreements and its management in the cloud computing industry. Service level agreements are very much essential and an important part of the client-server contract. The quality of service depends on service level agreements as it works as a metrics for the cloud consumers to judge the services of cloud providers. It also carries the agreement to penalize the providers, if the services according to the contract are not met (Golden, 2013; Onlinetech.com, 2016). The assessment also describes about the nature of application in cloud service. It gives a broad idea about the management of application which is provided through cloud services (deployment models such as IaaS, PaaS and SaaS). Amazon web services are chosen as the service provider. The technology provided through cloud is prone to disaster due to an internet connection. Therefore, in such cases application are made disaster proof by providing them resilience to such disaster. It increases the availability of applications(Zerto.com, 2016). Moreover, features like backup and recovery of the applications are entertained so that the applications can be recovered quickly and the consumers can experience an uninterrupted service. Various techniques of the chosen service provider in the assessment are compared and discussed. The different techniques, which are advanced in the current scenario, help in the quick recovery of applications. There are opportunities in the cloud management where different technologies can be used for better disaster recovery of the applications. Areas like resource management and application recovery need more methods for better management of services. More techniques have to be introduced for better services in cloud computing because still there are opportunities in cloud models which can enhance the quality of service for the consumers (Sherwood, 2015). Battle Royal Symbolism Essay Example For Students
Battle Royal Symbolism Essay Ralph Ellisons short story, Battle Royal, is symbolic in many different ways. In one way it is symbolic of the African Americans struggle for equality throughout our nations history. The various hardships that the narrator must endure, in his quest to deliver his speech, are representative of the many hardships that the blacks went through in their fight for equality. The narrator in Ellisons short story suffers much. He is considered to be one of the brighter youths in his black community. The young man is given the opportunity to give a speech to some of the more prestigious white individuals. The harsh treatment that he is dealt in order to perform his task is quite symbolic. It represents the many hardships that the African American people endured while they fought to be treated equally in the United States. He expects to give his speech in a positive and normal environment. What faces him is something that he never would have imagined. The harsh conditions that the boys competing in the battle royal must face are phenomenal. At first the boys are ushered into a room where a nude woman is dancing. The white men yell at the boys for looking and not looking at the woman. It is as if they are showing them all of the good things being white can bring, and then saying that they arent good enough for it since they were black. Next the boys must compete in the battle royal. Blindly the boys savagely beat one another. This is symbolic of the African Americans fight for equality. It represents the struggle they endured, to be accepted as equals with our societys white population, upon the abolition of slavery. Blindly, our nations black population fought, not always knowing what for, just as the boys in this story fought. The segregation of schools, restaurants, and other public facilities were issues that were fiercely fought over. These battles are directly represented by the barbarous fighting by 10 boys in a ring, being witnessed by whites in high social standing. Totally engrossed by the fighting these men yelled cruel things and became frenzied. This is representative of the how our nations white population treated African Americans for many years. Often they took a stance of authority, feeling superior to the black minorities. This belief is portrayed by the mens angered actions toward the boys. The electrified rug is another important piece in this story. The boys are given the opportunity to take bills and coins off of a rug, after the battle royal has been completed. As they grab for the money they receive jolts of electricity from the rug. The boys find it extremely hard not to reach for the money even though they will go through much pain in doing so. These activities again represent the African Americans struggle for equality. Even though segregation became an eventual realization the blacks had to suffer much. Blacks attending schools with whites still had to endure racial prejudices and misjudgments by much of the population. The boys in Battle Royal were given the opportunity to get money, but they had to endure the physical pain of being electrocuted in the process. The white men again are amused by these activities just as men throughout the years were amused by the activities of African Americans. The blacks were given things but with a price attached to it just as the boys were. The dream that the narrator has at the end of the story is very important as well. He describes his grandfather as having him open envelope after envelope, finally reaching one that held a document. On it was written To Whom It May Concern, Keep this Nigger-Boy Running. This represents many of the hardships that the African American people had to deal with over the years. Even though the narrator was given a degree of respect by giving his speech it was not nearly enough. The whites gave him his briefcase and congratulated him and that was it. The dream shows that they were just casting the narrator off, not really giving him anything valid at all. They said Nice job, but this really isnt much at all. The white men still felt and air of superiority, sending the narrator off to busy himself with tasks that they felt were relevant. He felt good about all of this at the time, but he will just be living the life that the whites envision he should have. This represents what happened in out nations history as well. The whites tried to appease our nations black population by giving them certain rights but never really letting them be truly equal.Ralph Ellisons short story, Battle Royal is very significant. It is representative of the many struggles and hardships that our nations African American population endured throughout history.
